Error message "Specified printer monitor is unknown"

Hello everyone.

I'm having problems with my 720 Dell Printer which is connected to a Dimension 2400 with Windows XP.  I had problems with printer spooler not activated.  Using this forum I got the problem solved.  This problem started after a technician replaced a good cable modem.

My new problem after reinstalling the software and drivers for this printer is an error message,
"Specified printer monitor is unknown" or "Specified printer monitor is unavailable".

Can someone please help me with this?  My computer doesn't even recognize the printer and it doesn't show up in the "Add or Remove Programs" window or on my C:/ drive.

1. Open the command prompt (Start > Run. 'CMD' Ok.)
2. Type 'net stop spooler' *Enter*
'sc config spooler depend= RPCSS start= auto' *Enter*
'net start spooler' *Enter*
3. Restart the computer.

Thank "ThatRenGuy"  for your input.  Sorry it took me so long to respond.  Other responsibilities besides this stupid printer, ya know.

Anyway I've tried what you suggested but to no avail.  I even reloaded the software and presumably the drivers as well, since they were all on the CD provided with the printer.

Then I restarted the spooler as that was the original problem.  After that I redid the steps you suggested.  But this printer does not respond at all.

So, after looking further into this printer forum it seems that there are many problems with this series printer (besides ink cartridges) that I would say makes this a dog of a printer.

So, now I'm going out and get an HP printer, and ditch this dog in the trash.

Again thank you for your response.
