firmware update on 1815dn
Dell tech support had me download 3 files to get manual and correct win7 drivers yesterday. One of them turned out to be a firmware update for the printer.
after update, printer screen showed (system initializing) and would not do anything. tech support is not smart enough to know how to complete the firmware update, I figured it out this morning on my own. turned printer off, and held down the x (cancel) button while turning the unit on. the printer then went into download mode, installed the update to the firmware and now is working again.

bigddv,
Thanks for the update. I do remember seeing that some laser printers, you have to update the firmware in steps, in case this information is needed.
You should not go from firmater 01 to firmware 04, without installing 02 and 03 first.

What I was most upset about was tech supports total lack of knowledge about the firmware update even when the second call was about the printer not working after the firmware unzip.

bigddv,
I understand totally. There was a member that knew these laser printers but no longer posts here. I can sometimes find the threads that may help others, I usually take care of the Dell Inkjet printers.

Hi BIGDDV,
How did you apply the update? I went through the steps on the README file and could see the printer but it prompts me for a username and password to get into settings. I can't recall ever having one for this. Did you experience this also?
Thanks,
Deb

I came here because I rushed my firmware update. After 15 minutes the display still said it was updating, so I cycled the printer power. It works fine on USB, but as soon as a network cable gets plugged in, it throws an error message. I found TG817 for sale on the internet. I will just replace that board if the USB firmware update fails.
