bigddv,

Thanks for the update. I do remember seeing that some laser printers, you have to update the firmware in steps, in case this information is needed.

You should not go from firmater 01 to firmware 04, without installing 02 and 03 first.

What I was most upset about was tech supports total lack of knowledge about the firmware update even when the second call was about the printer not working after the firmware unzip.

bigddv,

I understand totally. There was a member that knew these laser printers but no longer posts here. I can sometimes find the threads that may help others, I usually take care of the Dell Inkjet printers.

I still have no owners manual, and cannot get the printer to recognize my network. have to use it as a private printer on my Desktop only. I do like the life of the Toner cartridges Much better than inkjets

see number 5. default user name and password 1. Download the “Dell_1815dn_V1.03.04.03_smdall.hd ” on the desktop of the system that is connected to Dell 1815dn through network. 2. Find the IP address of your printer using the following steps: •a. Press the “Menu” button on the printer operator panel and navigate to “Reports”. •b. Use the arrow keys and scroll to “System Data”. •c. Press the “Select” button to print the system data report. •d. The printer’s IP address appears near the bottom of the page. 3. Open up your internet browser and key in the IP address of your printer. Click on “Printer Settings” link. 4. Then click on the “Update Print Server Firmware”. 5. After clicking on the link, it will prompt you to enter your printer’s network password. The user name is admin, and by default, the password is blank. Click OK after entering. 6. After clicking on OK, you will see the Update Firmware page. Click on Browse to locate your “Dell_1815dn_V1.03.04.03_smdall.hd” file. 7. After locating your firmware, click on the Update Printer Firmware button. You should see the Flash Upgrade message. [

Hi BIGDDV,

How did you apply the update?  I went through the steps on the README file and could see the printer but it prompts me for a username and password to get into settings.  I can't recall ever having one for this.  Did you experience this also?

Thanks,

Deb

I came here because I rushed my firmware update.  After 15 minutes the display still said it was updating, so I cycled the printer power.  It works fine on USB, but as soon as a network cable gets plugged in, it throws an error message.  I found TG817 for sale on the internet.  I will just replace that board if the USB firmware update fails.
