HELP, MY A920 IS NOT PRINTING CORRECTLY!

I have un-installed it, re-installed it and Dell customer service is no help, well at least some of them.

I cleaned my cartridge bays and the copper underneath the cartridges, then it asked me to print a test page which you have to see what arrows are darker, in which I did.  I put in which I thought was darkest and now my black won't print, I have done everything, was on with tech support for a whole hour, cleaning nozzles etc.

does anyone have any generic numbers so that I may try.  I just want to print, it prints colour but not black clearly or non at all.  It was printing fine till I had to enter those numbers which was 2 hours before.

Please help!

Try this. When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will NOT dissolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel (you should see the ink color on the towel). Retry.

I will try when I go home, but William I have one question.

It was working fine, black and all.  When I had to put in the numbers of the squares with the darkest arrow (alignment page) and I print after that is when everything got messed up.  I am not sure if the number I put was the "right" number, and it is nearly full of ink.  Is there general numbers I can put in to make it work?

I have been up till two hours trying to fix this thing, I even got a warm cloth to clean out the beys and the cartridge copper connecters.

but I will try your solution tonight and let you know..............I just don't want to buy new ink and it not work because of the number.

Thanks William

I have the same problem with my A920. Black stopped printing although it is a new cartridge, 68% full. Removing, shaking, cleaning, reinstalling, turning it on and off do not help.

Judging by the number of posts about the same or similar problems it seems to be a chronic design problem.

Has anyone had success in solving the mystery? I am about to toss it out the window but I do not live in a high-rise.

My mentally ill A920 just got WEIRDER. I discovered that it will print envelopes in black ink but not anything else. In additiuon to that, troubleshooting tells me that no black cartridge is installed -- or it doesn't recognize it. But... but... how then can it print an envelope in black ink ??????????? Is it posessed by demons? Should I have it exorcised?

Do Dell "experts" pay any attention to this site? Apparently not.

The numbers during alignment should not affect whether or not the printer prints even if they are way off. They only affect the sharpness of the letters. All of your problems could be caused by the same problem or different problems.

The number one cause is clogged nozzles in the print head on the ink carts. This can only be corrected by soaking the ink cart cleaning described at the beginning of this thread.

The second cause is dirty electic contacts on the back on the ink carts and the matching contacts in the ink cart carrier.

The third cause is a confused logic in the printer. This can be corrected by turning off printer, unplugging AC power brick and USB cable from the back of the printer for 1 minute, then replug.

The fourth cause is a defective ink cart which should be replaced. This can be tested by putting another ink cart in its place. Even your old ink cart may work.

The fifth cause is the printer driver. Re-install the driver eith from your original disc or on line from Dell.

The sixth cause is defective printer which needs to be replaced. This is the least cause that occurs.
