How do I scan multiple pages
I have a Dell A940. I cannot scan multiple pages. Sometimes it will go thru the operation of scanning but the final result is unreadable. It comes out as squares and signs rather than letters and numbers for example. At other times it will only print the first page and does not offer me an opportunity to print any subsequent pages. This single page it does give me is perfect. I follow the instructions in the owners manual and it still does not give me multiple pages that are readable. Can any one help. So far I keep getting from Dell Tech Support the same instructions that are in the owners manual.

What program or file type are you scanning to? Are you trying to OCR the scanned pages? The version of Abbyy FineReader Sprint (the OCR program) that comes with the A940 will not handle multiple pages. So if you are trying to scan multiple pages to Microsoft Word via the OCR program it won't work. In this case, you can contact Abbyy and get the latest build of FineReader 5.0 Sprint for a nominal fee. The latest build will handle multiple pages, but you will need to do things a little different to get it to work. If this is the problem you are encountering and you get the latest version, I can give you instructions to get it to work.

If you want to edit the scanned text in MS Word you need to scan the image through the OCR program. If you just want the image in Word you can bypass it. Word apparently sees multiple page image scans as a text file. Thats why you see the funny characters. I suspect that Word doesn't know how to properly handle multiple page images. It will only display the first page of a multiple page TIFF file.
Considering the above, the only solution is to scan each image to a separate file and inserting each image file into Word.

Thanks - your first response to me provided the help I needed. I had to upgrade my ABBYY from 5.0 to 7.0. It seems to work fine now. I am just disappointed that DELL could not answer my question. Even worse I just recently purchased this computer and printer A940 and Dell did not tell me that I would have to purchase an upgrade ($162.00) in order to use the scanner. I really do appreciate your help.

I hate to tell you this, but you may not have had to spend $162. A few of us were able to get a later build of Abbyy FineReader Sprint 5.0 (build no. 5.0.0.463) for about $10. This later build is multi-page capable.
