Is my AIO Photo 926 printer dead?
Hi all,
My printer had been working fine until recently. It still powers up and can still copy stuff but it keeps producing the "USB Device Not Recognised". Thing is, this happens on the family pc, my work laptop and my son's laptop. I've tried a different USB cable too but no luck so does this mean the printer has died?
I've tried numerous fixes but none work. I've uninstalled the software for it but am unable to reinstall the software because the PC does not realise it's connected! It last worked after setting it up on my work laptop but re-plugging it into the family.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers
Garry
PS My OS is XP.

Garry,
If you can copy documents under the glass, black aqnd white and color, then the printer is working properly.
Make and model of your computer and opertaing system. You said XP, is this 32-bit?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Try this first and if it doesn't work, then I'll need the information above.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Hi Rick,
Thanks very for much for your help.
I have a Dell Dimension 5150 and am using XP (Media Centre Edition 2002, SP3, not sure if this is 32-bit or not?). I've tried turning off both avira and zonealone but I still get the same error message unfortunately.
I'd already tried your suggestion of unchecking that power box toobut still the same outcome, I'm afraid.
It's because I get the same error message when I connect the printer with two other machines that makes me think the fault is with the printer rather than my pc. Do you think that's likely?
Anything else you could suggest would be welcome.
Thanks
Gaz

Gaz,
Try reading...
Allow Printer past Avira Firewall
Using 2 firewalls is not advisable as they conflict with each other. Hopefully you have one of them disabled.

Gaz,
It is possible to have the usb port malfunction. The Dell Desktop Forum may be able to help to get the port(s) working if that's the case.

Thanks again Rick.
I've looked into my Avira settings and it seems I have the anti-virus program only. Zone alarm is my sole firewall.
I'm confident the USB ports at the desktop end are fine - it's the port at printer end I'm unsure of.
Might the Desktop Forum be able to help with this or is there anything else you can suggest? Given everything we've tried, is your instinct my problem is printer hardware rather than pc software?
Cheers

That's right, Rick. I tried numerous usb ports, front and back, but still the same outcome sadly. I tested them with the my mouse which worked fine in other ports too.
I can't help but think the printer hardware is at fault here and that's why it won't communicate with three different machines. Anything you could suggest to prove this is true or not?
Thanks again

Gaz,
You can try there. Did you try a different usb port, like the ones in the front?

Gaz,
If you can copy a document under the glass, black and white and color, then the printer is not the problem. It could be the usb cable or the port issue.
I see we didn't try this.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the XP drivers. Install the drivers, You'll get a message the printer is not connected. Connect the printeer at this time(powered on)
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Thanks again Rick. I appreciate the trouble you going to in order to help me. :emotion-1:

I've managed to delete the existing print jobs, run the cleanup utility but when I attempt to reinstall the drivers the process is halted because as before the pc doesn't realise when I connect the printer. :(
Here's a .jpg of what the screen shows....

Gaz,
I downloaded and tried to install the drivers and the file just sits there.
Double click on setup, after the file unzips.

Gaz,
Can you download the System Information Tool double click on it, look in the folder for sysinfo and double click on it.
Post the information back here.

Gaz,
A harmless program that is just providing the information that is sometimes needed. One of our members wrote it so t removes the Service tag numbers, so we don't have to ask them top remove it and it also works with XP.
XP has been on this system for a long time. Wondering if maybe a file or so have become corrupt.
Insert the operating system disk and stop it from running. Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type
cmd
type
sfc /scannow (space between the c and /)
Hit enter and allow it to run. This will replace any windows fil;es that are corrupt of missing.
Then try it. You saw my post about the folder just unzipping and sitting there. double click on setup.exe. Since this is XP Pro, you may have to install it with administrator privileges.

Cheers Rick. That's reassuring about the anti-virus messages. Phew!
Unfortunately each time I attempt to run 'scf /scannow' it produces an error message:
'scf' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
I tried running as adminstrator and as myself and I do have the OS disc inserted but still get this error. Any ideas Rick?
