Laserjet 1700n network problem

1700n printer works fine directly connected, but get an error "won't print, error writing to".  I set the driver to look for the IP port, tested the cable, router set for DHCP, I can "see" the printer, access the web based config tool, but can't figure out what's missing to make it work connected as a network printer.  It originally did work, but after a power failure, I can't fix it.  I've tried reinstalling drivers to no avail.  Possibly the internal print server is a problem?  Advice???

I have the same exact problem.  Now it's locking up my apps when I try to print.  It just will not print over the network from any app.  Can we get a response from Dell on this?

I'm not trying to be smart but:  If you want a response from Dell then call Dell support.  This forum is a users helping users forum with Dell as the moderator.   It is not Dell tech support.....

Steve, you obviously have not had my experience with the "so-called" Dell tech support, which must be located somewhere in India where the techies read from the manual if you can understand them. I have tried both telephone and e-mail support and all have been worthless. These people have less knowledge than the customers.

I have the same problem with my new 1710n. It apparently isn't recogized by my simple home network. I had no such problem with my networked HP printer. At this point I am guessing that the IP utililty isn't giving the printer a proper IP address.

I anyone happens on an answer, I also would appreciate the help. Otherwise, I will have to do the same thing others have been forced to do: Send the thing back and get an HP.

Setting up printers in Linux is much easier than it has been in the past, but still requires some skull sweat. The Dell 1710n is a Lexmark E240n which emulates an HP. There are drivers on the Lexmark site for the various flavors of Linux.
