new ink cartridge won't work

I bought some new dell ink cartridges and was told they will work for my dell computer. They say "Dell" on them, but the printer acts like the cartridges are empty, even though they are new and full of ink. What do I need to do to make this work?

It doesn't matter that it says Dell on the ink cart or that someone says they will work in a Dell. If they weren't purchased directly from Dell then they are not new Dell ink carts.

I have the same problem and just posted a question.  I have a 962, and the cartridge is Series 5.  Is yours the same?  Maybe we have defective cartridges?

When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged inside with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will NOT dissolve the dried ink inside of the nozzles. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel. Also wipe the electrical contacts on the back of the ink cart. Retry.

I have a 924 and just ran out of ink, so I ordered new cartridges from dell and the printer is telling me the color one is missing even though it is not. I take it this is a common problem. What do I need to do?

Make sure the ink carts are in the proper side. Remove the color ink cart and wipe the electrical contacts on the back of the ink cart and the matching electrical contacts in the ink cart carrier. replace ink cart. Turn off printer, unplug the ac power and the USB cords from the back of the printer for one minute. Replug and retry. If that doesn't stop the missing ink cart message, put your old empty color ink cart back in. If the message goes away, then the new color ink cart is defective and will be replaced by Dell.

Thanks, William the Scot.  I didn't get to all your steps at once, but it didn't work after soaking the cartridge.  I just cleaned the contacts with a q-tip and alcohol, unplugged the power and USB, and now it seems to work.  Thanks.

GiJack44  i am not a forum specialist but on my printer when
i got new ink there is a spot on mine that on start menu i had
to click on start then find your printer in the menu and click it
then it should let you have options like go to your dell solution
center  then  you'll see once that is open you will see advance
maintenance, troubleshooting, and how to  click on the install
cartriges icon and it'll ask if your's are new? trial? or old
I had to click on new for black and white and new for color
then it would make me do a test page   i use a 720 dell
printer  not sure what u use   at least the information i am giving
isnt fact but it is on mine just ck your printer location and it
should have a little link in start to tell you if there new or old
mine had to be recked   hope it helps   forum people dont
yell at me just trying to help cuz i just went thro this 2 months
ago     good luck
