Photo 924 will not install
Brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro XPP SP3 fully updated
I cannot install a photo 924 on it.
I do not have discs so am using downloaded driver.
Decompress and then run either setup.exe or (default) dlccEN. It brings up the first screen asking if it is a network or directly attached printer. Choose directly attached and the screen closes. I can't see any process in Task Manager relating to this install.
I am running Kaspersky IS - but have paused protection to ensure this is not the issue.
I have "forced" the printer on using the "add printer" option and it prints perfectly - but of course this does not resolve the issue of getting the scanner working.
I've tried disabling all but the essential services/startup item in msConfig - same result.
Any ideas ?

Please follow the instructions below and the printer should install for you. In order to get the scanner working, you'll need to install the FREE OCR program at the bottom. You need to install the correct drivers, first from Dell to get everything to communicate.
First make sure your computer has all the Windows updates. I have the custom ones too, especially the.net framework(Needed to run many applications). Also make sure to have the latest Java. Since you didn't mention how the printer's connected, here the basic instructions for this printer.
Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. When the patch is finished, it will prompt you to restart your computer. It seems to be a lenghty process so please be patient.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
XP Drivers
Vista 32-bit Drivers
Vista 64-bit Drivers.
All other drivers
Install the proper drivers.(ONLY install the drivers you need) You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning
Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.
Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
