Photo Printer 540

Question

My Photo Printer 540 is exactly one year old and I have printed a total of less than one dozen pictures.  Yesterday the unit stopped feeding the photo paper.  It looks like there is a mechanical 'finger' under the paper cartridge that is supposed to push up and grip the paper to draw it into the printer, and this is not working.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any solution other than sending it back to Dell?

I'm having the exact same problem. It's so frustrating. I've added a new pack of paper and new cartridge, unplugged, re-booted my computer, etc. Nothing works. I'm in a jam. Any help would be so appreciated.

I have the same problem.  It says 'out of paper' but there are plenty of paper in the tray.  I have not used this printer much and I am anot happy about this product.  The warranty just expired so I don't know if there is any option left for me but to fix it somehow.  Otherwise, I need to buy another printer...

I am also having this same problem.  Alwys getting the message 'Out of Paper' but as the other person noted, I have installed new paper pack, new Print cartridge, uninstalled/reinstalled software, rebooted - everything and the same error messge keeps coming back.  I also have rarely used this printer - and now it is out of warranty.  Have you found any solution to this problem?  Thanks.

My specific problem--a failure of the printer to draw paper in for making the print--was resolved by taking the cover off the paper tray and then, after actuating the Print command and the machine starts trying to draw the paper in, placing a finger on the paper and gently pushing it into the printer.  Usually this is enough to get it to the rollers inside and the device takes over at that point and successfully prints the photo.

Thanks.  Another thing that I tried and it worked - was to apply tape around the roller, then after a few seconds, remove the tape.  It seemed to help the roller grap the photo paper.  Your method is also one I will keep in mind.  These 'MacGuyver inventions' should not be necessary though!  The printer should perform as expected - and it is not.
