Question about MFP and "scan to network folders"
Hi:
I have been looking for a networked MFP (printer, copier, fax & scanner), but I could not find out if I can use any of them (1815DN and 2335DN) to scan from the MFP control panel to a shared folder (I will use a GNU/Linux Samba server to store the scanned documents) without using any other software nor PC to control or receive the documents (so no software will be needed on any of my Ubuntu Linux PC clients).
My question is, what MFP models (if any) do support scanning to a Windows shared folder without need of any other software?

I have a Dell MFP 3115cn. I can speak about this model, and you can download the manuals for the models you inquired about to see if it offers the same feature set.
You can setup the Dell MFP 3115cn to scan to both SMB shares as well as an FTP server. From the printer console there are two network "folder" scanning options. "Scan to Computer" will use the SMB protocol, and "Scan to Server" will use the FTP protocol. The Printer's built in web server allows for easy configuration of either type of server by entering IP address/share name/user name/password (you can also configure finer details like port # etc too)
I haven't tried it with a SAMBA share but see no reason why it shouldn't work.
There's also a third network scanning option and that's to email. If your printer has access to a mail server, you can have it email the scanner output. A list of email addresses can be programmed into the printer easily through the web interface.

I've reading again the 2335DN manual but, again, I could not find out if it can scan to a network folder. But, I've read the 3115cn manual and it states very clear that it can scan to SMB shared folder and to a FTP server. So, I assume that only 3115cn supports that features.
