The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28), Printer is not working
Hi,
I am using the Dell Latitude E5500.
Recently, I got a problem with USB hub.
Fortunately, the laptop can recognize my wireless USB mouse, wired keyboard (new keyboard cannot be recognized, only old one). The mouse, only works with one particular USB hub. The problem is the printer. It had been worked before, but one day, I suddenly got the error message that the device cannot be detected. So, I went to HP website, and reinstall the drive, but I found that since the laptop can't detect the printer, it cannot be installed. I searched numerous websites, and realized that it is the problem of the USB hub. Lots of websites recommend to update the USB hub driver, but most of articles and Youtube are scam..I also checked Dell website, but there was no drive for updating the USB hub. If I go to the Devices and Printers, the printer is shown as unspecified and the properties said that "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)". In Device Manager, Other devices (HP LAserJEt M1522n MFP, & USB 20. Hub) is marked as yellow question mark. I have tested the printer with other laptop and it worked well. So, the condition of printer is ok. I also updated the Window (I am suing Windows 7 Enterprise, 32bt).
I did all thing what I can do..and now I have no idea what else can I do.
Please help!

leexiuxi,
When you installed the operating system, did you install the Dell System Software (if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Start with the Dell System Software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
The OS was installed by someone else, so I am not sure whether the person followed the step.
I reinstall the chipset driver anyway, but still didn't work.
Do you have any other suggestion?

leexiuxi,
Download and install in this exact order...
Dell System Software Utility
Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
Ricoh R5C8xx/R5U24x Memory Card Reader Driver
Then see if the usb ports work. If not, with nothing usb cable connected...
Start, control panel, device manager.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click uninstall.
Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will install everything. This could take a few minutes.
Then see if the usb ports work.
