V305 printer will print fine but not scan
V305 printer will print fine. But when I use Dell Imaging tool box to scan it does not work. It either tells me on the printer it is scanning, and sounds like it is, but shows no resulting picture on the screen. Or it gives me a message that the "scan was not successful" and to turn off and on my printer, Check my USB, etc. If the printer works its communications

karlent,
Check to see Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support
Check virus program and firewall
Try this tweak
Go
to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties,
left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left
click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow
computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Sorry didn't help. When I manually select scan and the correct computer it tells me its downloading th application list. Then I get an error that says the application list cannot be downloaded. Do you think that has something to do with it?

karlent,
Let's try a different approach.
Make and model of your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit? If Windows 7, was the computer upgraded to Windows 7 or did it come with it. Was the operating system recently installed? Is the operating system installed in English?
What virus protection are you using?
How did you install the printer on your computer?

Dell Studio Vista Ultimate - 64 bit Spyware doctor (disabled) and McAfee (disabled). Printer installed with disk. I just uninstalled and re-installed with no success.
This worked just fine up until a month or so ago. I plugged in another computer with UBS and printed a file from it and now this happens.

karlent,
A stuck print job in the queue will not allow a printer to uninstall.
Try running Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Uninstall the printer, start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V305 printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
With the computer online, insert the Dell Printer disk and install the printer. You'll be prompted that the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
It's best to have just one virus program installed. Sometimes they conflict with each other. I don't have the instructions, but I could probably locate them for Spyware doctor.
Try reading bleow for McAfee.
Allowing Printer past McAfee
1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’
2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.
3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.
4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.
5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.
6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’
7. Restart the computer

Although I realize this is years after the original post, I am experiencing similar issues with my Dell V305w printer having recently moved it from an old machine running XP to a new Windows 7 machine.
I've downloaded and reinstalled the drivers and Dell Imaging Software from the website a couple times to no avail. I can print fine wirelessly, the printer ink status displays properly, but I can't get scanning to function from the Dell Imaging Software or at the printer itself. When trying to scan at the printer it gives the error message that it can't download the Applications List.

JoeC1,
Some printers generate the application lost. Others you have to Update list of applications to send scans to
Did you install the OCR Program from the printer disk, needed to scan to applications like Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader and for faxing?
Make sure the printer and the computer are both online for about 2 minutes.
The problem with the V model printers and Internet Explorer 11...
Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.
Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.
The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.
Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.
