V505 Bidirectional not working (tried FAQ fix)

I have a Dell v505. It is running on a Windows Vista desktop with the latest updates, and I have the latest v505 drivers. Here's what happened:

The printer was installed as wireless, but it was "flaky." So I tried to restore it to USB. I did that, but it wouldn't print because bidirectional communication stopped working. I followed the FAQ instructions and would click the box and press OK, but the setting would vanish- if I immediately went back, the box was now unchecked, and no matter how many times I check it and press "OK" it didn't stay checked. I reset the wireless settings and it worked for a night on USB The next day, when I restarted everything and woke up, same problem- bidirectional was down and wouldn't come back. So I reinstalled it as wireless. Bidirectional does not work with wireless either, with the same exact problem regarding the box. At every stage I have tried reinstalling the drivers, with no success

I'm at a loss and would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Scott,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect your printer.

Uninstall your printer, start, control panel, programs and features.

Restart your computer.

Open your wireless router and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

With your computer online, insert the printer disk and follow the instructions. Your printer should connect to your network with no problems.

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Rick,

Thank you.  I will try this tomorrow. Before I do, though, it seems like this issue is not with the router, as it happened when I connected by USB and it did the same thing. But I will give it a shot. Thanks!

Scott,

The settings in the wireless router help to keep communications. There are a few tweaks but I would also suspect that your virus program and/or firewall are blocking communications. If you need, I have some of the solutions to get past the virus programs.
