    Hi drashlene,

Please let me know if you are trying to scan from computer or printer control panel. If you are trying to scan from computer, try scanning from printer control panel and vice versa.

Please let me know if the printer is connected to the computer with USB or over the network (wireless).

You can also check the connections between the computer and printer. Reseat the printer USB cable, if printer is connected with computer with wired connection. If your computer is connected to an Ethernet or wireless network, then turn off the access point (wireless router) and turn it back on. Wait one minute for the printer and computer to re-establish the connection.

For more information on this, you can refer to the manual: http://dell.to/VElOMN If the issue still persists, we might need to uninstall and re-install the printer driver.

    Please reply with the information.

I have tried to scan from my printer screen and also from my PC's control panel / printer divice.  I am using a usb cable from printer to pc and have checked the connection.  I also have used the information in my printer manual and tried to scan using it's information and have failed.  I think I have tried all that u have suggested except for uninstalling the printer driver.

    drashlene,

    Try this tweak...

    Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

    Restart your computer.

Also make sure to allow the printer past your virus program and firewall.

I tried your suggestion and still no scan.  My printer works with everything else but this scan problem.

    drashlene,

Do you have the OCR Program installed?

Start, all programs, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint

I do know this printer has a different version of Dell Printer Home that the earlier versions. I am trying to find out from my sources how to scan from the printer to the computer. Not sure how to update the list of applications to send scans to.

You probably require the latest driver for the A940.
    You can find it here:

Select your version of Windows on the drop down menu, and download all drivers and firmware available. Then restart your machine and it should work fine :)
