Why won't my printer queue empty itself?

I run Windows XP Pro on my desktop and Home on my laptop. I have both of them hooked up via a USB hub to a Samsung B&W laser printer model ML-1210 and an HP color inkjet printer, model deskjet D4100. Both printers work fine from both computers, with one infuriating exception!

Whenever something clogs up the print queue, I can NEVER NEVER NEVER delete the offending document! I click on the little printer icon on the task bar and open up the offending printer and select the document that isn't printing and NOTHING HAPPENS! I get the "deleting" message on the screen, but the document never gets deleted!

Just now, I unplugged the entire HP printer, and still no help! Now, I'm trying to print another document, but of course it won't print, because the ^(&()^*(&&)(&ing document I'm trying to delete won't delete!

Which software is screwing me up? Windows? Or one of the printer drivers? I don't know which software is running whenever I click on the printer icon and select a doc to delete, so I don't know which vendor to be mad at most! Moreover, I have no clue how to fix the problem since I don't know whose software is causing it! But, as you can surely tell, IT TICKS ME OFF!
