Can it be partioned ?
Is my present system software able to do it or is there other software that I must use ?
Interested in using it as a B/U separately for programs and files
My system :

Dell Latitude E6500
Please give link to step by step procedure if it can be done.

Hi Tom,
Windows XP does not have a feature to create a partition on an external hard drive. There are various third party software available for this purpose.
Please reply in for any further questions.

Hi Tom,
There are software available such as 'Partition Magic', 'Partition manager' etc to create partitions.
Note: The above stated software are not tested on Dell systems, hence, I would not be able to recommend a particular software. Please use it at your own discretion. Also, make sure all your data is backed up.
Please reply in case you have any further questions.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
If you have a link to a source of that third party software I'd appreciate it.
