Dell Data Vault Data Collection Service Running amok

Hi everyone, the fix for this is to run Dell Update and run the Update for SupportAssist. You can just type Dell Update into the search bar on the Task Bar and force the update early. There was a new update that was pushed recently that will correct the issue with Dell Data Vault and the Creators update.

Hi. I just gave up with this ridiculous resource waster which I never wanted. I've had this problem on dozens of PCs. I just disabled the two or three Data Vault Services and deleted the Data Vault folder in Program Files. Why do Dell allow this Data Vault program to be installed by Support Assist (which is a completely different program) without the user knowing or agreeing and for it not to appear in Programs & Features; very bad practice. As far as I can see this has nothing to do with Dell Update (whatever that is) as most of the PCs I manage don't have Dell Update installed; only Support Assist.

Same problem on Precision 5510.

Dell Data vault (DDVDataCollector.exe) : 5.2.2.60.

I'm in the same boat, my CPU was at 70% and almost all my RAM was consumed. The fans on my XPS sounded like the laptop was about to take off. There is also no startup listing for dell data vault collection.

System specs:

DELL XPS 9360

CPU: Intel i7-6500 2.5GHZ

RAM: 8GB

x64 system

Windows Operating system: 10.0.17017

What I'd like to know is what is the purpose of Dell Data Vault?  No-one seems to want to explain what the point of it is (and we me might want to run it), which seems strange.

The best answer I've found so far was only something like this: "Dell Data Vault is a software program developed by Dell. The most common release is 4.2.2.0, with over 98% of all installations currently ...." which tells me how many files it installs and how many services it runs, but is silent on what the purpose of it is.

The same issue after upgrading Precision 7510 to Windows 10 Version 1709. After upgrade high cpu problem.

Has anyone found out what this process/service is for?

Not only the CPU usage bugs me but also the name is suspicious.

Hi, I have the same issue on my Lattitude E5550

I narrowed it down to the following service:

• DDVDataCollector
• Dell Data Vault Collector
• Automatic (delayed start)
• DDV Collector service gathers system information and stores it for later use
• Version 5.2.4.77

I stopped the service and now my laptop is quiet again. (I had a constant 30% CPU load from this and lots of errors in the event log...)

Any comment from DELL regarding this information and ressource hog?

I'm having a different symptom. About 30 seconds after my computer boots the processor starts racing, the fan starts churning and my Inspiron 5548 display goes blank and I have to reboot. It takes between 3 and 7 reboots for the laptop to stabilize. I went to Event Viewer -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WMI-Activity and get between 7 and 11 DDVDataCollector errors every time I try to boot.

Used the process in the last post to ID the culprit - answers.microsoft.com

I found an error in the event logs that referenced physical disk 1 (or something to that effect), which on my Latitude 5175 is a micro SD with Linux Mint on it.  Ejected that card and the WMI Provide Host immediately dropped down the list in Task Manager.  Not sure what this Dell service is trying to do here, but obviously does not like my Linux drive.  There are still a few errors being gernerated in the event logs and WMI Provider Host did jump up for a short time but seems to get itself back under control quickly.  If it keeps up, I'll just disable the service(s).

Removing Dell SupportAssistAgent fixed it up for my on my Latitude 7490.

Same problem with 5.2.4.77 on an XPS 15 L521X. No updates are available for DDV. 

My wife and I both have the same issues... ddvdatacollector - makeing changes to memory . . .
