Dell Recovery & Restore
There is a ZIP file offered for download on the Dell site to access the Recovery partition on a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012. I have downloaded it but the ZIP file contains errors and will not work properly. Why can't this file be fixed by your developers and re-uploaded for me to download? It is offered on the following page:

Thanks for posting.
Key in the Cloud will not download any operating system image. Features of Key in The Cloud are listed below:
60 sec scan of the HDD
SMART software repair (The smart repair feature can be used to resolve the following issue)
MBR (Master Boot Record) Issue
BCD (Boot Configuration Data) issue
Partition issue
Data back up process
Trigger image restore process from the hidden partition

So, can you help me get a working copy of that ZIP file? My daughter would be extremely happy to use her Mini again.

You can just use the thumbdrive copy of the restore media you created when you first set up the computer. If you don't have that anymore, you can call Tech Support to purchase one, if we still have them. Otherwise, you would need to purchase the operating system media.

Pllease explain why the software offered is not available when it is on the web site.

Unfortunately, this model has not been produced since 2009, so support for it is very limited. I've been told the software is no longer available from the Dell website. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, I'll be happy to notify the support team to update the web page.

Thanks. The ZIP file has been fixed. Unfortunately, the .mst file for the Mini 1012 is not included. If you can get that file, you'll never hear anything but praise from me. Thanks again for looking into the bad ZIP file.

MST is a settings file used by the Microsoft Windows Installer, a component of the Windows operating system that enables software installations. It contains software configuration options, allows custom parameters to be used for the installation, and is used to configure test software.
If I can locate a source for it, I'll post back.
