Dell Support center
Can anyone help. My Inspiron 531 has suddenly started scanning checks continuously approx. ten minutes after switching on. These checks are taking approx 30 mins each and then after ten minutes they start all over again. Occasionally they jam and the only way to close is to close down the computer.

If it is the Dell Support Center, you should be able to change or disable the scanning schedule. Assuming this is the 3.0 version (with the red toolbox), open up the program, click the gear at the top for settings, then change the settings under PC Checkup for the hardware scan. You can also disable alerts under Personalization.
However, if it's still misbehaving it's better just to remove Dell Support Center completely from Add/Remove (or Programs and Features), especially if you somehow have more than one version (the older 2.0 that likely came with the PC has been replaced with the new 3.0 version). The software doesn't do anything special - you can do the same things yourself by other means.
