Going from microsoft office xp to office 2007

Question

I have some questions about going from office xp to office 2007.

I have office xp with publisher 2002. This version of office is really old and 2007 is the new in office at least until 2010 comes in. Anyway,

1) I have office xp with publisher 2002. This includes word, excel, powerpoint, access, outlook and publisher. Which version of office 2007 would I want to get to have the 2007 versions of these programs.

2) I have no updates installed for any office program, mainly because they don't show up on the windows update website and I can't find any on the office update website. Does this present a security risk?

3) If I had the 2007 office version that I wanted, would I uninstall xp and then install 2007?

HERE is the Microsoft listing and comparison of the different versions, from the Microsoft Office web site.

Looking at the prices, I'd wait for 2010 since it will be out shortly as they may have some special pricing during the introductory period.

A cheaper alternative is the free (they take donations) Open Office suite of programs that are equivalent and compatible with MS Office. www.openoffice.org

The only thing Open Office does not include is an e-mail program.

What about an answer to my third question, the one that I ask if having an unpatched microsoft office is a security risk.

It would be office 2007 Professional, Professional Plus, Ultimate or Enterprize you would need to get all they programs.

I have seen the list before. I would have to download the updates one by one right? I was under the impression that Microsoft had pulled support for office xp some time ago and that is the main reason why I posted on here about going from office xp to office 2007.

I'm having a difficult time finding the update tool that you run to check for office updates for office xp.

I didn't find any 'auto update' function, like they used to have on the Microsoft site.  You will have to manually download and install the applicable updates.
