Imported Letterhead Will Not Print Logo

Question

I am running MS OFFICE 2003. I received an email with a letterhead that included a Logo along with the text in the letterhead. When I am working in the Print Layout View Window in WORD I can see the Logo and the text in the letterhead. After I have finished my letter and go to Print Preview I lose the Logo but the text remains. I have manipulated the Logo in size and placement but it still does not appear in the Print Preview window. Additionally, I am unable to print the letter with the Logo. The text in the letterhead is all that appears at the top of the page along with the text I have typed in the letter.

Please advise me as to what the problem could be and how I may be able to correct it.

Is the 'letterhead' in the header? If not, I find it best to use the header area for letterhead information, especially when it includes a graphic. However, if you do not want to do this, then you need to check the Tools, Options in Word. Select  the Print tab and make certain to uncheck the Draft Output, as this may prevent the printing of the graphic. If this doesn't work, let me know. Message Edited by abach on 03-09-2005 09:34 PM

Hi, Allan:   Looked up the Tools, Options, Print Tab and found that the Draft Output was unchecked already...as far as a header, I received the document with the letter by email 'as is'...how do I check to see if it is in a 'header' and how would I go about taking what I have now and setting it up that way?...I did not author the document... it was sent for me to use so I am not aware of how it was set up originally...   Any more help you could give me would be appreciated...   Is it possible that I have a conflict with the WORD version that it was written in (version 9.x),  and my version WORD 2003 (version 11.x I think) recognizing the graphic? I know everything is supposed to be backwards compatible but sometimes things do not always work out that way....   Thanks for any more insights you could give me to solve this problem...   George

You could check under the Tools, Options, Compatibility setting, but I don't know if that will help.

To place the Letterhead info in a header, select the Letterhead info, and click the cut icon. Choose, View, Header and Footer. The click the paste icon.

Let me know if it does not solve the problem.

Glad you found the error. Printer drivers are finicky.

To fix the normal template problem, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MACROS and open the support.dot file. You'll see a button to fix the normal template, plus some other goodies that can fix problems.

I think I have figured out the problem. I went in and installed the HP printer driver I downloaded from HP's site, although I think the driver I got in XP was OK...I then went into Print Options and checked the Drawing Objects box ...the logo now will show up in Print Preview and does now print...I think checking this option was the main culprit not the driver but I am going to leave it alone...

****On another note, when I start WORD I do not get the Normal template on the Blank Document... I opened WORD and navigated to C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates as per WORD help. I opened the Normal.dot template and I get the original template I initially had with WORD...I SAVE it...BUT when I close WORD and re-open the application I am back to a BLANK document that I is not the one I saved as Normal.dot...

The BLANK document top & bottom margins are not the same as in the Normal.dot document and I am unable to change them, even when I go into Page Setup...in fact Page Setup reads as the original Normal .dot but that is not what I show on my screen view...

I have tried going through Windows Explorer and open Normal.dot and I get the same problem..the only way I can get to Normal.dot and open it as it should look is through the OPEN command in WORD...is there a setting I have to change to get the Normal.dot to load up everytime I start WORD? Its almost like the opening document is locked into place and I cannot change it or modify it...Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks for the tip...I downloaded the articles and information from the MS knowledge base and will use the steps they recommend to fix the template. You're right, there are a lot of goodies in that package.
