Missing Pictures in Powerpoint XP - dglxasset.aspx

Question

Whenever I use clipart in Powerpoint XP I get some images as thumbnails - and some just appear with the message 'dglxasset.aspx.  I can still download the images - just can't see them until I do.   The solution listed in the MS Knowledgebase (which suggests deleting files from the IE cache) doesn't work for me.  If I change security settings in IE, take down the firewall; there is no change.   BUT I can see the thumbnails when using clipart in Word XP.  Weird stuff.   Anyone got any ideas to solve this one?   Many thanks. Bunzena,   Have you tried deleting your temporary files?  Not the ones in the IE cache but the regualr temporary files.  That seems to have worked for some people.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Unfortunately removing/deleting the Temp Files (and I've tried deleting them all!) makes no difference. I have also tried a 'detect and repair' on Powerpoint - but still no luck.

Any other ideas - gratefully received!

Try deleting your temp folder files. Start, Run, type %temp% and click OK. Press CTRL-A to select all files. Press Shift-Delete and delete as many files as possible. Message Edited by abach on 05-02-2005 08:29 AM

I have tried your tip - and no luck either. In the Temp folder there was a whole load of files that I orginally though were associated with Pinnacle Expression (there was an apparent file link). Whenever they were deleted (using shift del) - they simply reappeared when I next open Powerpoint. I removed Pinnacle from the system (expecting some kind of conflict) - but that hasn't solved the problem.

In the Temp folder there is a folder called 'MS Forms' containing a file called msforms.exd. Whenever I open Powerpoint - this regenerates. I have 'Googled' and cannot find a related problem (although there seem to be other issues with this file!).

Many thanks for taking an interest - and if you have any other ideas - can I have them before the rest of my hair is gone?!

Next step I'd recommend is to delete your cookies. Right click Internet Explorer, Properties, Delete Cookies. You may lose some log in info for some web sites, but I wouldn't worry about this. Next step is to defrag the hard drive. After that it may be time to fix a registry problem.

The forms will reappear when you use MS programs. No big deal.

What is Pinnacle?

Abach - thanks for that suggestion - but once again no joy. Just for the record, 'Pinnacle' is Pinnacle Expression - part of the Instant CD/DVD suite that they make.

Have also tried 'detect and repair', a fresh install of Office (although I didn't go so far as to hunt through the registry and remove all the fragments), a fresh install of of Office XP 'media' and even an update from the MS website.

I agree it could be a registry issue - or potentially a programme conflict. If only I could pin down exactly when it happened! Anyway I think I'm resigned to living with it for the time being - as there doesn't appear to be a straightforward fix! Grrrrrr!

You could look at the event viewer. Right click My Computer, choose manage. Click the + to the left of Event Viewer. Choose Application and see if there is an error listed. You can also try System.

Dear Abach This is all enlightening stuff - many thanks.  Still no result though.  Nothing is listed under the event log (maybe this in itself is an issue?) - or under system.

Are the ones that show this problem ones you've downloaded? If so the comment in

may be relevant:

'If it's only a few clip art items, you've probably saved a preview of a file that needed to be downloaded. This can also be corrected by clearing the cache, but to insert the file you'll need to download it to your computer for the MS Site.'

The MS site is http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-gb

I installed the office clipart library from the Office CD (the media CD, I think; I have Office Pro XP)

You could try installing those again and rebuilding the clipart library.
