MS OE6 spellchecker problems!!!!! Help!!!

Question

Well, MS says there is no spell checker in OE6 (XP pro/IE7) if you have any of the MS Works loaded!! Well, I don't use or own any Works products!! I have the MS 2007 Home Student version of Word, Excel, PP, 1Note loaded - NO WORKS - still no spell-checker!!
It does show FRENCH and nothing else!! Parle-vous France???
Any ideas on this subject ?????? I have been composing my e-mail messages in Word - then spell checking, then paste-ing to the New Message in OE6!!! Gotta be a better way!!

Hi Mary Thanks for your response!  Yes, I did see a page like that - but it was for WORK...  not OFFICE...  My sister bought the Small Business version of Office (loaded by DELL) - she is running XP home, IE7,  OE6, and Word2007 - she just told me today that her spell checker works as it always has... You've got a problem since OE 6 uses Word 2003 and older for spelling. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974/en-us You'll have to find a 3rd party spell checker.

I did not see which OS you are running but may have missed it. I had this problem with spell checker and OE6 one and this is what Microsoft told me to do to resolve the problem: There is one

other thing but be aware, I am still running office 97!

Under program files>Microsoft shared folder you need to have the proof sub-folder folder and that folder needs to have the csapi3t1.dll file.

The below works for OE 6 also.

Just for your information, the issue can happen if the Csapi3t1.dll is
missing or corrupted after upgrading to Windows XP. This file can be
re-expanded from the Csapi3t1.dl_ file using the expand command from the

command prompt as follows:

1. Click Start, click Run, type command and then click OK.

2. Type D: and then press enter.

3. Then type CD i386 and then press ENTER.

4. Then type expand csapi3t1.dl_ c:\csapi3t1.dll and then press enter. (There is a space after expand and after the underscore) You will see the csapi3t1.dll file be expanded to C:\

5. Then close the command window by typing exit or from the file menu select exit.

Once expanded, go to windows explorer and simply copy the C:\csapi3t1.dll file to:

C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Microsoft Shared\Proof to fix the issue.

Well, I just read MaryG's post and read the article. So don't know if the fix I gave you will work for IE7. If you are running the same as your friend other than the OS then sometimes you can simply copy a working proof folder and .dll file from the working computer and copt it back to the non working computer. But I am crazy like that and try anything! Has worked for me. I do not use IE7 as of yet so don't know. But I have a friend that has XP-Pro and IE7 and spell checker works fine.

Hello dbramlet Thanks for your thoughts on this subject....  I am not much of a experimenter when it comes to changing things that change the registry!!!  YIKES!!!  I need to keep this machine up and running for the SWMBO - if you have never come across this acronym - it means She Who Must Be Obeyed!!!  Ha!  Can you tell that I don't have a spell checker??? Well first off this has nothing to do with the registry. It is simply a .dll file that has to be located in the proof folder. But that is fine and understand. You cannot hurt anything because you already have no spell checker. But when MaryG gives no options then she really is always right on I have found. Good luck then.
