I clicked on the link provided,  signed in, then clicked on "download factory install software (my dell dowmloads)" and came to a page that "registers my system" I accepted the term and clicked the "Register" button and the page RELOADS. The pictiur below is what comes up AFTER the I click the register and the page reloads. Please see below and notice the box is still checked but the register boutton is GONE

I should have been clearer. The problem is not when I register/ login the problem is when I try to download factory installed software (my downloads)  from the "my account) page. It requires you to register your system (at this point Im already logged in and have viewed "my system" details and am at the "my account" page)

I accept the terms and click the "register my system" box SEE BELOW

and this is what the page looks like AFTER clicking the register box and it reloads.  See below:

Notice the terms bos is still checked but the register button is gone.

dawnfreemansd,

Could you try it on a different browser per chance and see what  happens?

Hi dawnfreemansd,

Please ensure that you are using Internet Explorer only as My Dell Downloads would not work in any other browser.

Also, provide us with the model number and invoice date of the system as not every system is eligible for My Dell Downloads.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

I tried using internet explore and still same result as before. my model number is Inspiron 17 (N7010) purchsed 2-22-11 warranty expired 2-23-12. my system has crashed a few times and not have an operating system to restore it, furthermore the disk that came with my laptop does NOT have all the software that came installed on the laptop (specifically webcam software).

Hi dawnfreemansd,

Apologies for the delayed reply. Please disable any firewall/antivirus before registering the system and check again.

Please contact me through a private message by clicking on my name highlighted in blue. On the next page, click the envelope icon and provide your service tag and contact information so I may access your system records.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

Mine does the same thing in any browser, and it has since I bought it.  IE  part of the time doesn't work, then sometimes gives the error "Service Tag is already registered or is invalid.". I've never registered this system because of this error. How do I gain access to the software locker for this system? I can reach the other one I've registered, but not this one.

I Reset IE, and got the same error: Service Tag is already registered or is

invalid.  It has not been registered.

Hi skelleyh,

Follow the steps below to register the computer to My Dell Downloads:

  • Login into Dell My Account from the system you want to register.
  • Agree to the End User License Agreement
  • Click Register System
  • You may see a notice in the Internet Explorer tool bar indicating that you need to install Active X Controls. Please click the information bar on the web browser to allow Active X to install.

Let me know how it goes.
