Netvault 10.0.5 deduplication

Whenever I see or ead about deduplication it is always mentioned with SmartDisk or a DR appliance

I have neither SmartDisk license or a DR appliance but there is still an option to use deduplication

What, then, is this "native" deduplication and is it useful? is it only target (backend) dedupe it does? and if I am writing my data straight to tape I take it that won't work anyway and I would need disk to disk to tape?
