OL 2002: How Names Display

I now seem to have a weird problem in Outlook 2002. When I create a new contact, including one derived from another Contact at the same company or firm, I enter the person's name as, e.g., John Q. Public. I am often in a rush and don't pay attention to the File As window. Later I cannot find the contact because the name of the contact has become Public Q. John and the File As is John, Public Q. When I open the contact and particularly the Name I see that the first name is Public or Public Q and the last name is John. I then straighten this out and fix up the File as. Everything now is OK except for the odd leftover: the name in the Contact displays as Public Q. John Nothing I do seems to change it. It is a small problem that I suppose I can live with. But to have to do this everytime I create a contact is a pain in the neck. Any way to fix this?

Try, in Outllok, Tools, email accounts, check the radio button View or change existing directories or address books, click next. Select the address book if more than one, click change; a box opens to let you cange file as from First, last name or Last, first name.

I'm not sure that it will change existing ones if first and last names have got mixed up.

Also, in contacts window, you can show both the name and file as entries (right click on the bar at the top of the contacts folder (where it gives the column headings, click customize current view, then click fields, add or remove the ones you want, OK out. That would allow you to sort under either name or file as to find an entry.

Thanks! I found the button in Tools, Options, COntacts in both OL 2000 and 2002 and it seemes to work fine now.
