Quickset is driving me nuts!

What OS are you using ?  Can provide the link to the version it is telling you to download.

This is the version listed for your system. I would suggest you download this save it to your desktop and uninstall your current one and install this one

I have Vista Home premium and no, I can't cut and paste. I don't know how. As I said, I am really computer-challenged. Thank you.

Disable it in the start up in msconfig. click on-start -and in the search bar type msconfig and hit enter-click on the startup tab-uncheck quickset.and restart That will only make it so it doesn't  start up anymore, make sure that the program is not corrupted files, by running chkdsk or sfc /scannow in command prompt. And then try to uninstall if it does not uninstall, than you might need find the all files and registry entries and delete them and then reinstall it. I really don't recommend finding those files by yourself. Also make sure that there is not program like hijack this, that has removed the start up entry. Most of the time, it does make a copy for instances like that. 

I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH EXPERENCE YOU HAVE BUT DO NOT DISABLE ANYTHING IN MSCONFIG UNless you know absolutely what it is. There are many similar services and startup items.

Dave50, I found the one for my computer but when I downloaded and run it, a menu popped you that said *this is not a supported system*?

Thanks for the info. I did what you suggested (didn't delete anything) but I didn't see any file that could be connected to quickset. I read somewhere that quickset might not included in my computer, but if not, why do I keep getting this menu everytime I log on?

Do you have 64bit os or 32bit? If you need to find out  click on start then right click on computer and select  properties. Have you ever up graded or changed your OS? If not then dell always puts quickset on laptops to manage shortcut keys like volume, and thoes FN function keys. If you have this file C:\dell\drivers\R195575 try right clicking on it, and going to the compatibility tab and chose windows xp service pak 2. Then click apply and double click to run it. The file is quickset, If that does not work, go to the support.dell.com site, go to drivers and downloads, enter in your service tag and download the latest version for your system. Make sure that you check your os to see if it is 32 or 64 bit like i talked about. There is a sector at the top of the drivers and downloads page, for the type of os you have. This will also change all of the drivers that are displayed for your system. If you can download it and install it you can diffidently uninstall it. If you just want it to not start though unchecked the box shown below, and restart. If it is not working make sure you install the old version in the dell/drivers folder or downloading and installing it from the dell website, just to make sure there is nothing that is wrong with the software.

Glad to here it did work for you. Just remember that if you disabled it in msconfig, like the picture i posted. That it is not removed, it is only removed from the start up. If at any time you need it again for any reason. Click start-then type msconfig-hit enter- and go to the window that comes up- and on the front of the window- select normal startup. This will reselect all entries that have been previously been unchecked.
