Read Only Word documents
First, is this the correct board for posting questions pertaining to WORD 2000? In the past, I believe I posted them to the Software Windows 98 board. Seems I was directed to this board for posting Word 2000 questions.
Second, I often get a read only message for a document (usually after receiving an error message. I find that if I restart my computer, I can usually work on these documents. Is shutting down the computer the only way to be able to use the document?
Someone at Dell once told me to take the checkmark out of the read only option but it was not checked.

This is the correct board (although Windows 98 would probably get you an answer as well).
If you are being told that the document is locked for editing or if your Word 2000 came as a part of Works, you may find that removing the Word in Works Suite Add-in may correct the problem. The procedure for doing this is at the bottom of this page.

If I open my Works Suite, Word is not listed there. I believe for some reason in the distant past someone at Microsoft helped me remove Word from Works Suite. I have a shortcut on my desktop to Start - Programs - Microsoft Work and this is what I use. I usually do have office assistant open. Is there any other suggestion you may have as to why I get Read only messages?
