Runtime Error when opening Outlook 2003 - NEED HELP!

Every time I attempt to open MS Outlook 2003, I receive the following Runtime
Error:

--------------------------------------------------

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\outlook.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

--------------------------------------------------

It hasn't always been this way. I used to be able to use MS Outlook 2003. Now, after receiving this error, I am forced to click OK. Outlook then closes automatically. I try to open it again and receive the same error. I am now forced to use Outlook Express (which really stinks since I need all the features of Outlook... I run a home-based business and this is crippling me.)

I have tried the following in an attempt to resolve the issue:

1) I currently have Norton's Anti-Spam feature OFF. I get the same error message regardless if the Anti-Spam is OFF or ON.

2) I have contacted Symantec made certain that I do not have any corrupt files in Norton. I do not.

3) Uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2006 and then tested Outlook 2003. This did not work, so I re-installed NIS 2006.

4) Rebooted computer (running MS Windows XP), changed to safe mode and renamed msouplug.dll to msouplug.old. This did not work.

5) I have run Live Update for NIS 2006. I am completely up-to-date. This does not change anything.

6) On another forum, someone mentioned problems with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and Outlook 2003. They suggested checking for updates. I did so and the Outlook problem persists.

Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! I need to get this fixed. I have tried to research this on my own prior to asking for help. I went to Microsoft's website and it indicated that I needed to contact the manufacturer since the software was preloaded. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say, I am now BEGGING for help.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you tried the following:
1.Quit all programs.
2.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
3.Double-click Add or Remove Programs
4.Under Currently installed programs, click Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0, and then click Change.
5.Click Modify, and then click Next.6
.Expand Create Adobe PDF.
7.Expand Acrobat PDFMaker.
8.Click the arrow next to Microsoft Office, and then click Not installed.
9.In the Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 Setup wizard, click OK.
10.Close Add or Remove Programs.

This is a long shot, but try removing the Google toolbar (I'm assuming you have one) in Control Panel.

Thank you again for your suggestions. I removed the Google toolbar along with the Yahoo! and AIM Toolbar. Just in case, I restarted the computer and tried Outlook again. Unfortunately, this did not work. I continue to have the same problem.

I know you're probably very busy, and I appreciate all of your help so far. If you know of or can think of anything else, please let me know. I will owe you BIG TIME! :-)

Make it a great day!

Do you have Word as the email editor? If so remove it.

In Outlook, Tools, Options, click the Mail Format tab. Remove the check in "Use Microsoft Office Word as...."

No. I do not use Word as my email editor. And even if I did, I am not able to get into Outlook. After receiving the error message, I have to click OK and then Outlook shuts down.

I just don't know what to do. Thanks so much for your help, though. You are too kind!

Try this:
  1. Search for and run the file ScanPst  (Should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033)
  2. Locate the “corrupt” .PST file – and in case you didn’t make a backup, click YES when asked if you want a backup!

Let me know...

I scanned the pst files. It repaired the corrupt file. Unfortunately, I still receive the same error when I open Outlook.

I'm beginning to feel like a lost cause! LOL.

Thanks for your help, though. If you happen to think of anything else, please let me know.

Take care and have a wonderful day/evening!

We'll solve this even though it may take some time.

Try this

Start, Run, type the following

outlook.exe /cleanpst   (there is a space before / )

Then click OK

If that does not help try

outlook.exe /cleanprofile

Does Outlook start?

First of all, thank you for your patience.

I followed your instructions. When Outlook opened, I did get a little further. It asked me what profile I wanted to use. There were two available. I tried each one separately. However, after that, I still received the same dreaded error message. I guess that is progress that I even got to the point where it asks which profile to use. Anyway. Back to square one it seems! LOL.

Any other ideas? You don't have to keep helping me. I feel as if I am wasting your time. You have been too generous with it already. I appreciate it, but you can tell me to go away at any time! LOL. I won't be offended. :-)

Take care,
Erin

No problem, I really don't mind.

Let's try the following:

Start, Run, then type

outlook.exe /safe

Let me know if this helps.

Try creating a new user name (Control Panel, User Accounts, Create New). Log off, then Log On as the new user and see if Outlook opens. If so, we have a problem with your user account.
