I did right-click on the DELL Alerts icon in the toolbar, but under Settings it offers no option to not start. It shows three tabs: General, Alerts, and Logs. I don't see anything about not starting it under any of those three. Maybe we are talking about two different applications.
When I go to Add/Remove it asks for the Dell Support CD, which I either never had or simply can't find. I click on Cancel, then it continues, saying something like "preparing to uninstall", comes to a normal end. The Dell Support icon is gone from the list. Next day when I reboot, Dell Support is back again :smileymad:
Sounds like I need to escalate this issue. :smileywink: Anyone have the CEO's email address? :
Your experience is precisely why the first thing I do with a new Dell is to format the harddrive and install a clean copy of Windows. I have another suggestion for you:
/Start/Run/
- Type: msconfig - click on the Startup tab
This is a list of the various services and applications that will run on boot. I'm not sure what the entry for Dell Support is called, or if it's even listed there. If you see an entry you know to be the Dell Support application, uncheck the box, hit OK, and reboot. Windows will now cease to run the app at startup.
PLEASE can anyone give me simple directions for uninstalling "Dell Support Alerts"? My problem is that the Support Alerts window pops-up when I start my computer, slowing down the operation of the computer to an INSANE degree, and sometimes freezing when I try to close the Support Alerts window. I need NON-TECHNICAL advice on uninstalling this program.
Try this Start- All programs -Dell Support click on Dell support in the drop down menu. Then uncheck Run on windows startup. Or you can click on Channels and disable everything. Good luck
This should have worked:
Click Start- Settings- Control Panel- Add or Remove Programs
Select the Dell Support Tool you want removed and then click the Change/Remove button
The InstallShield Wizard dialog box, select the Remove check box
Click Next
If you get a window for "Remove Share Component", click "Yes to All"
If you get a window for "Remove Share File", click "Yes to All"
Click Yes
When finished, close all boxes
If it didn't, reinstall DST 3, restart, then try to remove it.

RE: removing Dell Support Alerts: I went to Start > All Programs > Dell Support in the drop down menu. But then I could not find "run Windows on startup" so I could not uncheck it and I could not find "Channels" so I could not disable anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Start all programs dell support hover over with your mouse or click. A menu should appear. Then you should see Dell support again and channels. This works on my 4700 and E510 Good luck
You can navigate using the start/all programs/dell support. I disabled it by right clicking the icon in the lower tray...right click > channels > disable.
It happened again -- ripped the screen out from under me while I was typing...
Thanks to everyone who replied with advice. Here's a summary of the status of this issue:
1.
I've succeeded in removing the DELL Support icon from the tool tray. I first looked at the startup programs folder -- you know, the one that's like 10 directory levels down from the root -- but I did not find the program listed there. I guess it must be triggered from a registry entry of some sort. Anyway, I used a program called Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin, and it disabled the program from coming up when I boot.
2.
My DELL Support Alert application is version 2. I think some of the comments I've seen assume behavior that would happen with version 3. At least that would explain why some of the suggestions I tried did not work.
3.
Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel seems to work, but the application is not actually removed. When I start the Remove process, it asks me to insert a "Support CD", which I do not have. I have several CDs from DELL -- "Application" (two like this); "Drivers and Utilities" (two like this); "Operating System: (only one of these
.) Nothing that says "Support". When I respond Cancel to the insert message, Add/Remove seems to be doing something for a moment, then the entry for DELL Support disappears, just as if it had removed the application. When I re-boot, the application is in the Add/Remove list.
Can someone tell me how to contact DELL Technical Support on this issue?
I too would like to turn off my E-Support. It wasn't a problem until I changed my Dimension 8100 system over from Windows ME to Windows XP. Now a get an error message at start-up. The error message states "CreateInstanceEnum() failed" and says it can't operate E-Support. I attempted to uninstall E-Support and had a near fatal error occur. I'd like to make it through the start-up process without having to "OK" out of this error message. Suggestions???

The Dell Support program is essentially useless. My suggestion is to just remove it.
Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs
Find Dell Support in the list of installed applications and click Remove.

Nothing listed in Startup that looks like Dell. Looked in Services, too, and don't see anything there either.
Thanks anyway. BTW, I moved this to the Dell Support Alerts discussion list.
