where to get DataSafe Local Basic software?
Help! I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15R (64 bit) a couple of days ago and in the course of setting it up, I inadvertantly erased? the DataSafe software that presumably came installed on it. (I know, I *should* have read the setup guide and created the recovery disc immediately...) I figured I could get it back by using F8 and the recovery partition but the DataSafe program does not show up under all programs. So now I have no way to create my recovery disc.
So where may I find the download for this software? I've searched around the support site and forum but cannot find it.
I'm reluctant to get it through the link in the Dell Support 3.0 software (on the driver/software download site for my model) because I think that's how I destroyed the original copy. I hadn't realized DataSafe was already installed (you guys should create a destop link for it so it's obvious or copy HPs method and nag at you until you create the recovery disc) and tried to install the downloaded version I got via the Support software. The installation failed with an error message of "RPSetup Error 1". A forum search (and reading the Setup Guide) told me it came preinstalled. However, my aborted installation attempt must have destroyed that copy because it was no longer in the All programs list. That's when I decided to do the recovery - but it's still not in the list.

This might not be a "bad thing". Think about it, you don't want to "backup" data to the same physical hard drive. If that hard drive fails the backed up data is gone. Backup should only be done to a separate media - discs, flash drives, external hard drives, etc.
Also, if the hard drive fails your only option is to reinstall from discs. The Dell recovery partition is a "factory only" item and can't be recreated by users.
Since you apparently can't make the backup discs you probably should contact Dell support, as the may be able to guide you through the creation process with what you have now.

I just want the DataSafe software so I can create the recovery disc. I'm perfectly happy with Microsoft's Backup & self discipline for my backup needs.

I don't like the supplied MS backup either. It has a lot of limitations compared to Acronis True Image.
