Why doesn't a DELL representative answer questions on this forum

I posted an important question on this forum over 1 week ago and have received ZERO replies to that thread, WHY ?

Does anyone know if the DELL representatives still answer questions on here ?

How can DELL supply free software via "Support Center" and then totally ignore the fallout caused by the poor quality of that software ?

Comments please ?

This is a users helping users forum.  There are some Dell moderators that occasionally will answer a post but that's all.  If you want to contact Dell or complain to Dell this is not the vehicle to do it.

Because it is a users forum, unless someone has something to add or help there will not be any responses.

Many thanks for your reply, do you happen to know what the best method is for contacting Dell ?

The only options I can seem to find via Dell Support Centre and their website are all chargeable

Preferably an email address.

First, unless you have an extended software support warranty, which I don't think exists be prepared to be charged for any software support.  There are no free Dell software support, except for the first 30 days of ownership.

Restate exactly what the "poor quality of software" issue is, maybe I can give you an answer (and maybe not).

I'm not sure how to include links to other topics on this forum but here goes : LINK

The gist of the problem was with the offer of : "DataSafe Local Basic Free" via Dell Support Centre

I downloaded and installed, but I believe the installation may have corrupted my D:\RECOVERY partition because the recover option is no longer available via the boot menu

I would argue that since Dell are currently offering this backup software for free then they should at least accept some responsibility for it.

Looking at the many google "hits" for this, it appears to be very popular and not everyone is having problems.

It does integrate itself with the Recovery Partition (PC Restore) according to this blub from Dell:

Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 Basic recovery is shipped free on every Dell consumer computer and provides the capability to recover all of the software originally shipped on your computer. Basic recovery includes the following features:
  • Factory Recovery with Emergency File and Folder Backup
  • Recovery Disc Creation
Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 Pro provides additional backup capabilities integrated directly with the factory recovery and is available to any user of Dell Consumer computers for a small upgrade fee. Upgrade features include:
  • System Backups
  • File and Folder Backup under Windows
  • Backup profiles
  • Scheduled Backups

I tried to install that on my Dimension E510, just to see what it was as there were some posts about it.  It wouldn't install on my Dimension E510 with Vista 32 bit OS as it reported missing files.  Thus I never got to check it out and see how it works.  I can't find the download that I used, to read the "fine print" .  Sorry I can't help.

Many thanks for your replies anyway, it looks like the integration part of this new version is not compatible with the previous recovery partition format that Dell pre-installed on my Inspiron 530 - it's a shame the installation process didn't check for the correct recovery partition format before attempting the install.

Oh well, I live and learn, that's the last bit of free software I'm going to download from Dell.

Luckily, I have other backups of all my system and files, so I will just have to accept that the original factory build has gone.

Cheers again.
