Win XP/ Word 2000 to Win 7/ Word2010 Transfer
Hello All, I have a list of things on a floppy disc, 93 kb in size. My previous Dimension (8100?) was running XP Home Edition, the MS Word 2000 used the extension .doc. My 2010 Studio XPS 8100 is running the 64 bit Home Premium version of Win 7.Even if I bought an external FD drive, what kind of trouble would I run into trying to copy the data from the FD into a My Documents folder in my Win 7? Would it be simpler just to retype the data into a new Word 2010 document? Thanks for any info in advance. USOutpost 31

You should have no problems, once you get them off the floppy disc using the old computer. Copy them to a USB stick and transfer them to the documents folder of the new computer.
Word 2010 will open them without problems. Newer versions of Microsoft Office are designed with a strong focus in backwards compatibility in mind, otherwise it would deter all Office users from upgrading to the newest version of Office.
Once opened in Word 2010 you can convert them to .docx if you want or continue working with them on the older format .doc.

Hi US Outpost 31,
The MS word 2000 uses a ".doc” file which is compatible with the MS word 2010. So you may just use a copy-paste method and transfer the “.doc" files to MS word 2010.
