Windows Vista/Word 2003 email problem

I have a new Dell computer with Windows Vista factory installed on it.  I installed Microsoft Office 2003.  Today I tried to email a document from Word using a group distribution list I'd previously set up in Outlook. (You know, where you can type in one word, like "Study Group" and have the same email sent to 50 different people without having to type all the individual addresses in every time).    From the Word document, I chose File, Send To, Mail Recipient (as attachment) and put my group's name in the "to" line.  It wouldn't send.  It just hung up the system until I got an error message from the Bellsouth connection window. 
To test my distribution list, I sent an email with no attachment, to the group.  It went right through. 
I've previously sent emails, with attachments, to my distribution group email with no problems, using Windows XP.  Anyone know what might be causing this glitch?

In my experience, I've found that using the BCC for large groups is a better method. I usually place my own email in the To box and the group name in the BCC box.
 
This accomplishes two tasks
1. Your recipients will not see all the other recipients' addresses
2. The file size of the email (not an attachment) will be reduced.
 
I'd suggest you try this.
 
Also, your ISP will have a maximum file size limit for attachments. It could be that your most recent message exceeded this limit. Your ISP may also have a maximum amount of names allowed in the To, CC, or BCC field.

Yes, I put my email in the To field, and the Group name in the BCC field.  That's the way I always do it.
I don't think it's an issue with a maximum number of names allowed in the field.  There's only about 50 names, plus I've been sending to this very same group this way  for over a year.  For the same reason, I don't think it's the attachment size, either.  It's only around 600 kb, and I've been sending messages this size to the group all year.   Plus, I went back to my old computer to try to send the email, as I was on a deadline, and it went through fine, as usual.
The problems only started after I tried to send the email using Vista, so I'm thinking there's some kind of Vista/Word 2003 incompatibility.  I'm hoping there's a setting I can change somewhere to fix it, as I have to send out an email to this group at least once a month.
I thought maybe Norton's was the cause (it came preloaded on the computer), but I turned off the "scan outgoing emails" function and it didn't help.
Any other suggestions?

I would believe it has something to do with Norton's Security settings with Vista. See if you can disable Norton and send the attachment. If that works, we'll have to find a way to allow Word to send an Outlook attachment.
