2161 DS - Kvm over ip

Hi,

We recently purchased the 2161 DS remote kvm switch.  I am having trouble configuring it.
When I hyperterm to it...its say booting etc...and then says "press any key to continue" after that I press a key but nothing happens..it just stays there.  I then tried using the Remote console software it found and assigned the unit an IP address but then when I try to go to manage it ..it asks me for a username and password.  What is the default username / password?

Also can I hyperterm to a 2161ds???

Thanks

The default user name should be Admin, make sure the first letter is capitolized and there is no password.

I believe you need a null modem cable to connect to the console. I have not seen the problem you are describing. I just started trying to get mine working over the past two weeks. I am having an issue where I can connect to the servers, but can not get any keyboard or mouse response once I connect through the Dell software console. I have found out if you connect through the console and it ask for a password, and you do not know the correct one, there is no way to recover this.

Hi,
We had no password before I updated the firmware (file D0_3_2_french.fl) and I don't know how to gain access in local mode. I have also the same problem when connecting using the serial cable.
So, the symptoms are quite similar.
Have you managed to solve your problem ?

I had a similar issue with my 2161 where it would not come up in console mode even though I had everything set according to the manual.  After calling Dell they recommended a hard reset(power all the way down and then back up for the KVM) and this resolved my issue I was able to console in and make my changes.  According to the manual this is not supposed to be necessary but it was.  Hope this helps.
