Dell PowerEdge 2900 Server upgrading BIOS & Firmware without OS

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server that i have have Ubuntu 20.04 Server installed on. Is there a way to update the Bios and the Firmware?

Hello,

 

The only way that I can think of would be to use Redhat live media of a supported version. It looks like the latest supported version is RHEL 6. You might be able to use that to access USB storage with the firmware updates to run from.

Glad that it worked out for you. I know that updating an older platform can be tricky sometimes, so its nice when something works on the first try.

I was unable to find RHEL Live Media iso, but i did try it with CentOS 6.10 Live. Had to install additional packages, but it worked like a champ. When you try to run the updates for BIOS, ECM, & BMC, it will come back and tell you which packages need upgrade, and which need to be added

I know, but among the servers i have that are new then this one, it out performs them. I dread the day i have to put it to rest. Also long as Dell continue to make servers like this, that is what i will buy.
