Firmware from M640 Fail's because he didn't find any source AND how I become a .d9 or a .only File?

Hello,
I have a little problem.

I search for a Firmware Update for some M640 Blades.
The File must end with .d9 or .only.
I tryed it via CLI, iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller and many more.

Meanwhile i think the needed FIle for the Firmware Update is "not exist" on the DELL Support Site.
How can i create it or where can i find it?

The Lifecycle Controller:

He give me the Error via dell Suppot Site and via https / http:

No File or Directory are found.

From CLI and FTP:

ERROR: RAC980: Unable to apply the firmware update because the file type is invalid.
       The file type of the firmware image used is invalid.Only .d9 file type is supported.
       For more information on supported file formats, refer to the iDRAC User Guide on the support site.

Best regards Chris

Hello,

You can manually extract the archive and look into a subfolder. You can use firmimg.d9 file after extracting the .exe file. ".d9 — Contains both iDRAC and Lifecycle Controller firmware" For updating iDRAC FW you can use either Update Package for MS Windows 64-Bit or firmimg image format file.  Sometimes .exe files do not run properly on the iDRAC GUI. In such cases, as a workaround option is to download the file iDRAC and extract it. Once you extract you will get firmimg.d9 file and that file can be used in iDRAC GUI for update.

Hope that helps!

@DELL-Erman O

Hello and Thank you for the fast reply!

i extract the file but in the payload directory is a .fwh File and nothing else.

Why i think it's the payload Directory:

In a other Support Ticket, he means it's create there.

Which firmware are you trying to update? This .d9 file is a valid method for iDRAC. This file extension is not found in other firmwares.

Please take a look this short video https://dell.to/3UxmF9D or you can find detailed information for alternative ways from here https://dell.to/3Q6jz9I

For example I can recommend server update utility for all updates https://dell.to/3Q6jzqe https://dell.to/3W7KLZx

@DELL-Erman O

I create the exe File via the Dell Repository Manger.

Then i Download the File from the repository Manager.

And the last step is:

I start the exe and extract the file in a directory and the file ( N201DL43_signed.fwh ) is the only one in the payload sub folder.
