iDrac 7 Enterpise Won't Initialize
I have an R420 server with licensed iDRAC 7 Enterprise. When powering on the server I get "Alert! IDRAC not responding...rebooting. After it reboots it tries to initialize again and fails. In BIOS, LifeCycle Controller is Disabled and trying to update the firmware via packages always fails (Windows and Linux). I do not have the flashing amber lights in the back and trying to boot from an sd card with the d7 firmware image doesn't do anything. Ideas?

Hello @jcalcampbell,
This looks like a iDRAC error for me. You can try a few things to resolve this kind of problem but if none of this operations works you might need to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.
So let's starting from here. Please, proceed to drain the flea power of the server. Just follow the steps on this article: How do I Reset and Drain Power of my Dell PowerEdge Server?
You can also soft reset the iDRAC. In order to do that, please proceed with this other article: How to reset the internal Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) on a PowerEdge server? (Only Option 1).
I hope you canregain access to the server after any of this two operations.
Let us know if you need any more help.
Regards.

@DiegoLopez
I've tried draining flea power, resetting NVRAM, and performing a soft reset of iDRAC, all with no luck. I just ordered a new enterprise card yesterday. Do I need to replace the motherboard instead?

Hello again @jcalcampbell,
I guess you mean the "iDRAC Ports Card" or "iDRAC Enterprise card". This card provides the hardware features of a dedicated management NIC and vFlash. But the iDRAC component itself is integrated in the motherboard. Thats why this card is not required to activate or enable the rest of the iDRAC features.
So, as per the description of the error you made... I honestly think it is not a port error.. but an iDRAC error. That's why I suggested you to replace the motherboard wich has the iDRAC integrated.
Regards.

Will I be able to re-use my enterprise license with the new board? If so, how can I get it if I don't know it.

Yes. Please, send me the Service Tag of the server via PM.
If a iDRAC Enterprise license is linked with this tag I will be able to export it and sent it to you with xml format. This article shows how to import it later.
PowerEdge: How to manage an iDRAC license via the web interface?
