IDRAC express setup questions for R330
I recently started a new IT position and we have a PowerEdge R330 that is used for video surveillance. I don't have much experience with servers in general and most of my duties are around Data Analysis, SQL and Web development. However, I am a one man department so I get to take on everything. I want to setup IDRAC on this server and I've done plenty of research and reading but I'm a bit confused and I think a lot of the setup directions require a level of understanding that I might not even have. My education was based on networking but I haven't done much with it since. So here goes.
We have a IDRAC 8 express license based on what OSMA is telling me and I know we have the built in IDRAC port already installed on the server. If I want to setup Express I can't use that port correct? Our only data cable is plugged into NIC 1 and my understanding is in IDRAC setup I set NIC 1 to shared and I can use the static IP currently assigned to the server and the one I assign for IDRAC on the same data cable? Or do I need to hook up a cable to the other data port on the server as well? (There are only two)
With that being said. If I share a data cable and I upgrade to enterprise, do I upgrade through the current setup and then once I have the license and activate it I then hook up a cable to the dedicated IDRAC port and change the setup in IDRAC to dedicated instead of shared?
Some help here would be much appreciated!
Tony

1. Correct, the dedicated iDRAC port (the one identifed with a wrench/spanner printed above it) requires the iDRAC Enterprise license.
2. The iDRAC and the server can share an interface with different IPs, your config as is should be fine.
3. If you decide to upgrade, I would apply the license first. If you don't you're likely to lose the easiest place to import a license (the iDRAC GUI).
Your approach looks good. It shouldn't give you any serious issues implementing.

If I use a different data cable and NIC 2 for IDRAC instead of sharing the port already used do I need to do anything with the adapter settings for NIC 2 in Windows as far as IP settings?
Thanks!

You shouldn't need to do anything with Windows. All that should be involved is connecting ethernet, and either assigning an IP or confirming the DHCP assigns one. If you haven't already, the iDRAC would need to be told to use the other NIC. I can't recall the exact place to find that, but you should see it in OpenManage under Remote Access, or the iDRAC web GUI under iDRAC Settings, I believe.
