Lifecycle Controller update issue

Hello,

I am having an issue with an R610 server that I want to update through the lifecycle controller. When I choose FTP.Dell.com I can get the Catalog, it downloads it and verifies the Signature, but everytime I get an error that no updates are available even though I know there are some updates needed... Exact message is :
- "No Update is available. Ensure Windows catalog, and Dell Update Packages for Windows are used."

Can you please help me resole this issue?

Thanks,
Martin

Sorry for the delay everyone. Officially Dell has stopped supporting 11th generation systems on the Catalog file due to Lifecycle Controller memory limitations only in 11G servers, as you can read here.. In response Dell had to remove all 11G firmware and BIOS DUPs from the Lifecycle Controller Catalog. The change was necessary due to the Catalog's growing size as it also added BIOS and firmwares from various new 12G, 13G and now 14G servers being introduced.

Note that Lifecycle Controller Firmware Update continues to work normally with all 12G - 14G servers. As well tools like OpenManage Essentials (OME) or System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP) will still identify and push applicable 11G updates since they can push and run DUPs "in-band" on the target host's operating system that has no memory limitations like the Lifecycle Controller.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Marty_McFly,

Would you confirm the catalog package you are using, as well as what you're trying to update. Also something to look at is if you are fairly current on updates to start with, then the package might say no updates due to the fact you are at the current revisions that are on the catalog. Yet the update catalog is only updated about every quarter, so you may see more recent updates available individually, but they may not be on the catalog until next release. If you understand what I mean. Would you confirm the links you are using, as well as what you're trying to update?

It would also help if you private message me the svc tag, so I know what is installed.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

I used FTP.DELL.COM and CATALOG in the path. When i tried using DOWNLOADS.DELL.COM with CATALOG in the path I am getting a Network error. I wanted to update the BIOS, Lifecycle Controller itself, Firmware of Raid controller, and firmware of NICs. I was able to update BIOS, LCC, and RAID through Windows Server 2016 by downloading the exe from the Dell Website directly, but was getting the No Updates error through LCC before and after the flash... Service tag is {{{SVC TAG REMOVED BY MODERATOR}}}. I also eliminated the firewall issue by connecting the server directly in my ISP modem so that no router firewalls were getting in the way. Please let me know if you have an idea what could be causing this.
Thanks,
Marty

Drop catalog from the path, I don't recall that being necessary. Now I did see that the FTP was intermittently down yesterday, so that is something to take into mind.

Another option to consider is using the Server Update Utility, which is an iso that is run from within the OS. Now with it having 2016 installed I am not certain of its success, as 2016 isn't supported on the R610.

Also, I was able to get the svc tag from the posting before it was removed.

I have tried removing the Catalog from the path and therefore leaving it blank and I get the same symptoms using either FTP.Dell.com (no update available) or Dowloads.dell.com (network error). I am pretty sure the update through your tool would work but I only have Windows temporarily on the server to do the bios update, but this will be an ESX server in reality, so the goal is to get everything working through the LCC. I know for a fact there should still be updates available, if not only the Dell diagnostic and Latest Driver package are not up to date... Any other ideas as to how I can get the LCC to update properly ?

Thanks again,
Marty

Hi Chris,

Any other ideas or is this classified as a Network issue on my side ?

Thanks,
Marty

I'm having the same problem with an R610 that I'm trying to update.

This is on an R610 revision II with iDRAC firmware version 2.90 (Build 04) and Lifecycle Controller Firmware version 1.7.5.4.

Below is the screenshot of the error:

> Also something to look at is if you are fairly curret on updates to start with, then the package might say no updates due to the fact you are at the current revisions that are on the catalog.

When a host a fully updated, it will still show the firmware and other packages that apply to the system. The "current" and "updated" versions will simply match, and packages that don't need updates won't be selected by default.

I've never seen this error before when using ftp.dell.com, even with a host that didn't need any updates. This error seems to indicate that it can't find the updates at all (or whatever file the tool is looking for). When I first saw the error, I thought that Dell's FTP site may have been having problems, but I've made several attempts over the past few days to update this particular R610 without success.

I last updated an R610 about 1-2 months ago, and it was working then. The only new package would have been that BIOS update with the Spectre v2 fix. Maybe it wasn't published correctly and broke the LCC updater?

Same issue with a R415 and R515 running LCC 1.7.5.4 and DRAC firmware 2.9.  Seems like something is going on with Dell's FTP repository or a bug in firmware.

June 1st, 2018 14:00

I've confirmed this is happening on a 3rd R515 server located within a different network. This one is running Dell BIOS 2.3.0, DRAC firmware 1.98 and LCC 1.7.5.4. Dell must be having issues with the catalog signatures on ftp.dell.com

Error is: No update is available. Make sure that the Windows(R) catalog and Dell(TM) Update Packages for Windows(R) are used.

The same problem here with R410, BIOS 1.12.0, iDRAC6 2.90, Dell Lifecycle Controller 1.5.2.32.

Is there a workaround  for Linux systems like Debian available?

Please advise!

I'm on an R715 and am receiving the same error:

"No update is available. Make sure that the Windows(R) catalog and Dell(TM) Update Packages for Windows(R) are used."

The problem ist not only with the ftp.dell.com. The same error comes in the LCC when I try to make the FW-updates with the linuxISO.iso or SUUImage.iso generated with the Dell EMC Repository Manager via virtual CD/DVD...

So it seems that the current repository is somehow broken ...

Has anyone from Dell acknowledged this issue?  It seems to be widespread and with all of the recent Spectre BIOS updates being released its critical that BIOS and firmware updates are fully functional via the LCC.  Creating repositories via Dell's Repository Manager does not scale well if you are an MSP responsible for updating 100s of servers across 100s of different networks.
