My 8-bay R740 needs additional drives
I've got three quick questions I hope someone can help me with.
My r740 is physically out of storage space and I am looking to see if I would able to add an additional drive chassis to my r740 to accept additional drives? My system has 8x 2.5" drives.
Would my PERC H330 accept additional drives if it would?
Is there anything in the system that would need to change to make this work?
Thanks

Hello,
The only drives the H330 will be able to control are internal drives. The limitation is going to be the chassis and the backplane. A backplane is easy enough to swap out, but the chassis is going to be the biggest problem. I want to say the drive cages are fixed in place and not removable, but I'm not 100% certain on that. I do know that we don't have an upgrade path to go from the 8 drive configuration to a higher one.
If you want to add external storage, that would be an option, though. That storage would end up needing a separate controller, either an HBA or a PERC H840. The MD1400 would be an external option. Another would be the ME484 enclosure, which would need a 12Gbps SAS controller.
A storage solution, either direct attach or network storage are going to be your best options.

there is an upgrade 4G4F6 that has the 16 port backplane and 8 bay cage for the R730
