PERC H965i Front - QLC HW RAID Support

Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing an R7725 with 2x PERC 13 H965i controllers. I am potentially looking at the 30TB or 60TB NVMe disks for this, but I have seen an error that these drives are not supported under this controller. When I then add in 15TB (TLC) drives, it says they are supported. It seems like TLC is supported but not QLC, but I can't think of a technical reason for this. Do you know if this is the case, or is it an issue on OCA ? I have gone through the server technical guide, and RAID controller and there is nothing to indicate this would be an issue.

Hi,

from what I’ve seen, the PERC H965i only officially supports Dell-qualified drives.it might not show up as supported even if it technically should work. Also worth noting: the controller doesn’t support multi-namespace or multi-LUN NVMe drives, and it won’t work with SMR or EEDP-enabled NVMe either. So if your QLC drive has any of those features, that could be part of the issue.

Honestly, it seems like the problem is more about firmware-level validation and Dell’s qualification process than a hard technical limitation.

I can only see below compatible largest drives for R7725 I'm sharing with them part numbers:

41DXR Hard Drive, 16 TB
8CCGH Hard Drive, 16 TB
MXC46 Hard Drive, 16 TB
NT45N Hard Drive, 20 TB
P6GW1 Hard Drive, 20 TB
GPP63 Hard Drive, 24 TB

Hope that helps!
