problem with R730 dirve

Hi,

We have a one year old Dell R730 with only 8 disks, today I find out that one of the virtaul disks in a RAID 0 showing This,

The Virtual Disk has bad blocks. For more details, see the Virtual Disk Bad Block Management section in the Online Help.

can we clone this disk? or cloning the disk will also move the bas secotrs to the new disk as well?

MrShahlin,

I would advise that you verify you have a backup. After that then access OpenManage and then would you verify if you see any of the drives listed as a Predicted Failure? If so then we will have to take steps to replace that drive. If nothing is showing as Predicted Failures, then you can try Clearing the Bad Blocks and see if that resolves the issue. Beyond that you can also try a consistency check.

Let me know what you see.

Hi Sam,

Thanks as Always for your reply,

The Drive itself shows a green check mark and in Full view of the Physical Disk I dont see Predicted Failure!

You said "Clearing the Bad Blocks"

Do you mean we do this by going to the Virtaul disks and choose the Problematic virtaul disk and then from drop down menu choose "Clear Virtaul disk bad blocks" and click Execute? would this has any impact on the data on this disk? I mean wouldn't we lose any data on the disk by clearing the bed blocks?

Also I cannot run the consistency check because this disk is not in a RAID configuration.

Thanks

It could effect the data, depending on where in the data those blocks lie, as well as if they are correctable. That is why I suggest a backup prior to doing anything.
