Replace TPM 2.0 module with TPM 1.2 module.

Hello,

I have two Dell PowerEdge R230 Servers. One is shipped with TPM 1.2 and the other one is TPM 2.0.

I am using Centos 7 as my OS and I am successfully stored my keys to TPM 1.2.

Now I need to replace the TPM 1.2 module to the server which currently has TPM 2.0. I have already cleared the TPM 1.2 module before replacing it to the new server. After replacing, when I boot the machine, it says " Cannot be used on this platform. TPM is turned off . System will reset now."

How can i replace TPM 2.0 with TPM 1.2 from another machine (after clearing the TPM cofigurations).

Arungsn,

There isn't a way, this is because after the TPM plug-in module is installed, it is cryptographically bound to that specific system board. Any attempt to remove an installed TPM plug-in module breaks the cryptographic binding, and it cannot be re-installed or installed on another system board. So you will likely need to go with a new TPM.

Hope this helps
