SD Card on R730
All,
I have a Dell R730 with dual SD card
385-BBJL : 16GB SD Card For IDSDM
H1H8M ASSEMBLY, Flash Storage Device, Secure Digital, 16G, IDSDM, KINGSN
SD card has ESXi on it and we used it to boot ESXi up.
this week, the SD card is corrupted.
I reloaded ESXi from DVD and reinstall on the SD card and it still corrupted.
Dell Diag said the cards are Fine.
Is there any tool/instruction on how to format the cards to start fresh?
They are in a mirrored configuration.
Tks
John

Hello
You can initialize the cards to wipe data off of them. There are many scenarios where the system needs to be restarted for IDSM cards to function correctly. You can find information about IDSM in the iDRAC and LCC documentation. The latest documentation appears to be on firmware 2.05.05.05.

Thanks

Thank you. It has iDRAC8. But I still can't find instrution on how to initialize the cards.
Diag show the cards are healthy.
We rebooted the system couple of times already.
Tks

The initialize option may only be available for vflash and not IDSDM. I looked through the BIOS and LCC settings for IDSDM and there are not many options.
You can check the USB settings in the BIOS. If you have USB 3.0 enabled then try disabling it. The IDSDM is a USB storage device, if the OS is having issues loading from an SD on the IDSDM then it could be an issue with the USB driver in the OS.

Dan,
Does the SD card need to be a Dell Mfg'r? Same size as the failed card? Is there software already on the card provided by Dell?

Hello,
not need to be a Dell SD as soon as at list the minimum size of the failed card. There is no particular software in the card provided by Dell.
Thanks
