T420 - Failing HDD (RAID1). Data migration.
I have a T420 that is marking one of the HDD as failing (or its predicting a failure to be more precise).
The server currently has 2 600GB HDDs.
I'm planning on replacing both drives with 2 2TB HDDs.
The system has a PERC H710 RAID controller.
What the best option to move the data to the new RAID1 array?
Is there an option to migrate the data from one array to another within the Dell/RAID software? Should I just make an image and restore?

Hello
The best practice would be to backup, delete, recreate a new virtual disk, reinstall, and then restore from backup.
The easier method that is not a best practice would be to rebuild the larger drives into the virtual disk one at a time and then expand the capacity. The H710 support capacity expansion by using OpenManage Server Administrator. If you choose the "Reconfigure" option in OMSA and there is available space on all disks in the array then there will be an option to expand capacity. This will allow you to increase the size of the RAID array to include the unallocated disk space.
Whatever you decide to do you should backup first. There is always a potential of data loss or corruption when making any hardware or software changes to a system.
Thanks
