a reciprocal specification(RepliStor)

hi~all:

When created a reciprocal specification, should disable  the Protect Target Files option? it's Compulsory

I want to created a data source for Autostart.

That is correct, in case of two way specification you cannot protect the target files. But you need to ask yourself do you really want to have a two way synchronization, usually that is just asking for trouble.

thanks.

IF disable  the Protect Target Files option,What is the basis to protect the target file?

Practice, I have not done so,Seems to have no problem.

but, when other node  reboot,Take a long time to check the data source. resource group is running Normal.

If protect target files option is off then someone might open the file on the target which will in turn block this file while the file is open. The bigger concern is the two way replication, where if the same file is opened on both sides, you will experience data loss or data corruption for sure. Of course if you can prevent people from messing with the data it might be possible, but we all know it is impossibe.

I just realized that the Replistor specification we are talking about is configured as a data source for Autostart which makes me wonder if you are not configuring it right? Replistor has a failover option to reverse the specification from node2 to node1, and not have the replication active on both ways on the same time, maybe this is what you are looking for?

All,

Remember that if you are going to have a spec on a Source and a Target, you should also check the Reflect Protection box in the Specification.  If both specs are enabled even by mistake, this can result in an update storm of updates.  That can cause a "lot" of problems.  If you are absolutely sure that you can never have the reciprocal spec enabled on both nodes then it is possible to create the specs so that Target File Protection can be left on or turned off.

As mentioned by another person, it is not a good practice to allow updates on both the Source and Target nodes.  This can result in inadvertant loss of data.
