EMC recoverpoint breaking Oracle 12c CRS. Please help

Trying to setup EMC Recoverpoint lun to lun replication with Oracle 12c RAC 2 node cluster to RAC one node cluster using ASM

We get Oracle working in both environments and turn on recoverypoint.  Once the replication is completed we turn the one node cluster back to read/write and Oracle gives us the error:

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

CRS-4530: Communications failure contacting Cluster Synchronization Services daemon

CRS-4534: Cannot communicate with Event Manager

We reinstalled Oracle and the same thing happens once the luns have replicated.

Is there anything special with 12c and asm that needs to be done for recoverpoint?

Recoverpoint 4.0.SP2(m.24)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi there,

Are you replicating the Oracle configuration or is Oracle installed & configured on the target site and you're only replicating the db files? Please ensure that the Oracle configs are setup correctly and not getting overwritten (test this outside of RP) and that you're replicating all relevant file systems. Also, I would consider upgrading, not sure why you're using 4.0SP2 and what splitter type. I would recommend opening a SR to have the env checked.

Thanks, Z

Thank you for the reply Fadliz!

Oracle is tested and working before we start the replication process.  Only the LUNS  are being replicated and not the local disk/Oracle config.  This is our DR system and is ran by SunGard data systems so we have no say over what version of Recoverpoint them use.

We had this working previously with Oracle 11g, but with 12c and ASM we are not having any luck.

Looking at the Oracle logs it looks recoverpoint is breaking access to the voting files:

CRS-1714: Unable to discover any voting files, retrying discovery in 15 seconds;

Could this be during the replication when the luns are set to read only. Is there configuration within Recoverpoint to fix this?

Well first question should be does EMC recoverpoint support Oracle 12 and ASM?

It should be agnostic to the db as the replication is at the LUN level.

Can you confirm the version for both RP clusters and has the CG been disabled/re-enabled and then tested?

Rich

We have Oracle installed again and ready to go. But we are still not 100% sure on the storage configuration. I have reached out to EMC support, but they are not(at least the person I have talked to) familiar with recoverpoint configuration and Oracle 12c.

The more I read and youtube videos I watch the more confused I become. Can someone who has configured recoverypoint with Oracle 12c and ASM please help me with:

-What data and configurations need to be replicated for Oracle?

-What data and configurations need to NOT be replicated for Oracle?

-After a fail over through recoverpoint what are the steps to getting Oracle up and running?

  • Are there scripts that need to be run to mount the LUNS or VOTING disks?
  • Do we need to restart Oracle or CRS or any services?
  • Or when it fails over to DR should we be able to just log in without any changes done to Oracle?

Right now we have 10 200G LUNs being replicated.  On 3 of those LUNS we have the Oracle VOTING disks.  Do we need to put the VOTING disks onto a LUN that is not being replicated?

Thank you again for all of your help!! =)
