Node Alias mapping to a share local to the server fails

We are having a problem where the serer that hosts a Windows share cannot map via \\node-alias\share-name. It prompts for a username\password but it will not authenticate. We are receiving NTLM authentication errors in the security logs. All other servers/PCs in the domain do not have a problem connecting to the share via the Node Alias. This becomes a problem because local DTS jobs have to grab files from a local share to complete. All DNS entries are created and are valid. I believe the problem to be with the NetBIOS and the server not allowing an access token to be created using an alias.

Any thoughts?

I agree, the symptom description may be wrong as it is not possible to access it even when using credentials, but the proposed registry change will fix it up for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I will give it a try this weekend. The one symptom that does not apply to me is "After you type the credentials, you can view and access all shares" I can never access a local share using any credentials.

I am hoping the article will provide the answer to the issue. I will post the results Sunday.
