Replistor 6.2 (with Exchange module) and VSS for Exchange 2003
Hi Everybody,
I'm trying to configure Replistor in order to use Shadow Copy (VSS) to replicate our Exchange 2003 database and logs on a target site (standby server).
After reading a lot of docs, I still don't understand how the product and VSS works together. Could anyone explain me how it works? What are the steps to activate the vss replication and to use the vss copy in a disaster mode.
For example, on my Specification, if I force a shadow copy, is this shadow copy transfered to the target site ?
I guess I can mount Shadow copy point only if I check the box that make shadow copy on the target. But If i don't check this box how can I mount shadow copy made from the source on the target.
Thanks for your answers.

Please read page 76 of Administrator 's Guide.
"Shadow copy on the target" is an indispensable function.
Please check "Shadow copy on the target".
Even if the shadow copy is executed on the source site when this function is not used, the shadow copy set is annulled.
Moreover, it is not transferred to the target.

How to be sure that the Exchange database stored on the target (edb files) are clean.
I explain :
I had configure VSS copy with a script that run eseutil /k /i on the edb files from the mounted shadow copy in order to validate the shadow copy on the target
But the script fails because the checksums are not correct (target database are in dirty shutdown).
How to be sure that the database files stored on the target are in clean state ?
Should I stop and unmount the database on the productions servers, initate a synchronization to the target and then, perform a VSS copy (with offline production databases)?
Could anyone explain me how to be sure that target files are in consistent state ?
Thanks.

Therefore, perform at least an Inc Sync, then also wait for the Kernel Cache/Logs to be at 0. Next perform your shadow copy and it should complete for you.
If it does not, then your production Db's may have some issues with them. If you stop Exchange or dismount the DB's in production, you may not be able to bring them back online until the corruption is repaired.
